5 Signs Your AC Needs Service Before Summer

5 Signs Your AC Needs Service Before Summer

Don’t Wait for a Hot Day to Find Out

Every summer, we get a surge of calls from homeowners whose AC stopped working on the hottest day of the year. Most of those failures had warning signs that could have been caught weeks earlier. Here’s what to watch for.

Sign 1: Warm Air Coming from Vents

If your system is running but blowing warm or room-temperature air, you may have a refrigerant issue, a failed compressor, or a problem with the airflow. Don’t ignore this — running a system with low refrigerant can damage the compressor, which is the most expensive component to replace.

Sign 2: Unusual Noises

Your AC should run with a consistent hum. Grinding, squealing, rattling, or banging noises are red flags. Grinding often means bearing failure. Squealing can indicate a worn belt or motor issue. Rattling may mean loose components. All of these get worse the longer you wait.

Sign 3: Weak Airflow

If air isn’t moving strongly through your vents, the problem could be a clogged filter, a failing blower motor, blocked ducts, or a frozen evaporator coil. Start by replacing your filter. If that doesn’t fix it, call for service.

Sign 4: Frequent Cycling

An AC that turns on and off every few minutes (short cycling) is a sign of an oversized system, refrigerant leak, thermostat problem, or electrical issue. Short cycling is hard on the equipment and dramatically increases wear.

Sign 5: High Humidity Indoors

Your AC removes humidity as it cools. If your home feels sticky or muggy even when the system is running, it may not be operating efficiently. This is especially common with older or improperly sized equipment.

Schedule Before the Rush

Spring tune-ups book up fast in Walton County. Getting your system checked in March or April means shorter wait times, lower risk of emergency breakdowns, and peace of mind before the Georgia summer arrives.
